How to Make a Difference Against the Odds

We all know that great achievements don't happen the easy way; if it were easy, everyone would do it. Fortunately, we can develop ways to overcome the odds.

Welcome Jan Houbolt, Executive Director of The Leadership (Greater Baltimore Committee), an organization which has helped leaders in our area for over 20 years.

The Leadership, started by only a few bold and intuitive individuals, developed as part of a local effort to revive our community through educating its leaders. Today, The Leadership celebrates over 1000 senior level graduates from its program, proving that hard work and vision can amount to great success in community growth, economic development, and business practices.

In addition to his role as Executive Director of The Leadership, Jan independently consults for various organizations and serves on a number of committees, as he has for many years. Some of Jan's committee involvement includes the Maryland Food Committee, the Advisory Boards of the Community Mediation Program, the Johns Hopkins Downtown Center, the Boy Scouts of Maryland Marketing Committee, the Center Club Membership Committee, Partners for Giving, and the Steering Committee that created the Maryland Association of Non-profits.

Clearly making the difference himself, Jan holds a B.A. in Sociology from Howard University and a Ph.D. in Sociology/Organizational Behavior from American University.

As part of RENO 2007, Jan will teach us about the characteristics that certain individuals possess, enabling them to transcend what others think impossible.
